How to
Noseslide
The short answer
A noseslide locks the nose of the board on the ledge, tail held up, and slides across at 90 degrees to the ledge. Ollie and turn 90 so the nose lands square on top, with your front foot over the front bolts taking all the weight. Keep the back foot light to hold the tail up, then turn back to ride away.
Step by step
Land your
first Noseslide.
Each step is a part of the trick Skate AI scores when you film a try.
- 01
Approach
Roll toward the ledge at a slight angle, with enough speed to carry the slide.
- 02
Pop
Ollie and turn 90 so the board lands square across the ledge.
- 03
Lock in
Land with your front foot over the front bolts, taking your full weight, and the nose locked on the ledge.
- 04
Slide
Keep your back foot light so the tail stays up, and hold your weight forward through the slide.
- 05
Pop out
Turn back the way you came and ride away, weight centered on landing.
Troubleshooting
Why you're not
landing it.
The tail drags along the ledge
- Why
- Your back foot is pressing down instead of staying light.
- Fix
- Shift more weight to your front foot and keep the back foot relaxed.
You spin out early
- Why
- You turned more than 90 degrees on the pop, so the board keeps rotating.
- Fix
- Turn just enough to land square across the ledge, then stop the rotation.
You slip off the nose
- Why
- Your front foot landed past the front bolts instead of on top of them.
- Fix
- Land with your front foot directly over the bolts, not further up the nose.
You can't hold the slide for more than a moment
- Why
- You're not used to balancing that much weight on your front foot alone.
- Fix
- Practice nose manuals on flat ground to build that forward balance.
DrillPractice 90-degree ollies onto a low, flat ledge at a standstill, then add rolling speed once the lock-in feels consistent.
FAQ
Noseslide
FAQ
What's the difference between a noseslide and a tailslide?
A noseslide locks the nose on the ledge with the tail up; a tailslide locks the tail with the nose up. The weight goes on whichever end is locked in.
Should I wax the ledge?
A thin coat of wax on rough concrete makes the slide smoother and more consistent, especially while you're still learning the balance.
Why does my board stop instead of sliding?
The ledge might have too much grip, or you popped too low and the nose caught the edge instead of landing flat on top.
How do I stop being scared of catching an edge?
Start on a low ledge you can step off of easily, and wear pads if that helps you commit. Catching an edge usually just stops the board, it doesn't launch you.
