How to
Pop Shove-It
The short answer
A pop shove-it is a flat 180-degree spin of the board underneath you, with no flip. Put your back foot in the middle of the tail with your toes hanging slightly off the toe side, and your front foot near the front bolts at an angle. Pop and scoop the tail back behind you, lifting your front foot to let the board spin, then catch it with both feet over the bolts.

Troubleshooting
Why you're not
landing it.
The board barely turns or stalls halfway
- Why
- You're popping the tail straight down instead of scooping it back.
- Fix
- Scoop your back foot back behind you as you pop, not just down.
It spins more than 180 and keeps going
- Why
- You're scooping too hard or catching it late.
- Fix
- Ease off the scoop and watch for the grip tape to line back up, then catch it right away.
The board flips instead of staying flat
- Why
- Your back foot is dragging off the side instead of scooping straight back.
- Fix
- Keep the scoop motion level and behind you, not down off the edge.
You catch it but it's crooked under your feet
- Why
- Your front foot isn't lifting enough to let the board spin freely.
- Fix
- Get your front foot up and out of the way as soon as you pop.

FAQ
Pop Shove-It
FAQ
How long does it take to learn a pop shove-it?
It varies, but many skaters pick up the basic motion within a few weeks once their ollie pop is solid.
Should I learn ollies before pop shove-its?
A working pop helps, but a pop shove-it doesn't require full ollie height. You can learn the scoop and catch separately.
Why does my board go past 180?
You're scooping too aggressively or catching late. Soften the scoop and catch as soon as the grip tape faces up.
What's the difference between a pop shove-it and a frontside pop shove-it?
A pop shove-it spins backside, away from you. A frontside pop shove-it spins the other way, out in front of you.
